How Capita Uses Insite for Efficient HGV Licence Acquisition and Training Management
“Insite’s part-funded HGV scheme has been just great for us at CW Recycling. The smooth sign-up process, clear documentation and well-paced tuition have all contributed to success in our candidates’ licence acquisition objectives. Their training team have been so supportive, and the overall experience turned out to be much less daunting than what some of our candidates expected.
Additionally, the partnership with Insite has had a significant positive impact on our business as well, addressing both recruitment challenges and supporting operational growth. The focus on training internal employees not only helps us build a loyal set of staff but also creates a sustainable pipeline of skilled talent from within the company, who can then help future employees who may wish to upskill.
The highly transparent and structured training has resulted in a more qualified work force and contributed to smoother operations for our supervisors.”

Challenge
- Following a successful bid for a large waste contract in the South East, SUEZ faced a significant shortage of HGV drivers.
- To address this, they launched a campaign offering new recruits and existing staff the opportunity to train as heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers.
- This initiative aimed to meet the demand for trained operators before the contract’s go-live date.
Solution
- Owing to the potentially negative impact of heavy goods driver shortages on the UK economy, the Government introduced the HGV Skills Bootcamps at the end of 2021, an initiative designed to help deliver high quality driver training for companies and individuals in order to fast-track the closing of this key skills gap.
- As the partner chosen by SUEZ to help resolve their driver shortage, Insite was able to deliver the entire training programme and, crucially, guide SUEZ in maximising available government subsidies to minimise the impact on the bottom line, saving them 70% on their training costs.
Result
- 40 employees have been trained so far to a Category C licence.
- The business has saved over £145,000 on training costs to date.
- This influx of qualified drivers enabled SUEZ to start the new contract on a firm footing and, thanks to Insite’s advice on securing government subsidies for driver training, at less than a third of the usual cost of HGV training.
- Outsourcing the project to Insite paid dividends in terms of time saved and meant that the SUEZ team was able to focus on other practical, technical and financial demands placed on them by a large scale service ramp-up.
